New In 2010
What's New for 2010
What's new this year? This year's expedition on the Horton River will continue to be fully integrated with the Inuvialuit from the NWT, and the Inuit of Nunavut. This year the program will be again delivered by the National Outdoor Leadership Schools (NOLS).
As well, you will be able to track the progress of the expedition with daily updates on the AYL website.
Intern Program
This year we are pleased to announce that one of our AYL alumni will receive a fulltime summer Internship with AYL and act as a liaison and support on the expedition as well as an assistant to the AYL Coordinator. We are also hoping to be able to provide an opportunity for a second AYL alumnus to join the program as the Expedition Intern, supporting the both the students and NOLS instructors for the duration of the expedition.
Alumni Support
The AYL program will continue to provide ongoing support of the Alumni, assisting the graduates with different leadership, education and career development paths.
- Follow-up, including connections with career planning professionals and networking events (sponsors/employers/education).
- AYL staff will develop post-expedition programs, including, but not limited to, community and peer mentorship, progressive leadership workshops, and alumni events.
- All alumni will be supported in seeking opportunities to apply and further develop their leadership skills through local workshops, involvement with local, regional and national youth organizations and programs to further their skills development.
