Breakfast Banquet

There has been a banquet for every group at the completion of their trip. The banquets will be held at the Mackenzie Inn in Inuvik. The banquet is scheduled for breakfast the day after the group flies in from the river (in order to accommodate showers and clean clothes for the participants). Each student has been allowed to invite up to two family members. In addition, sponsors, other key community members, and newspaper staff have been invited. The banquet involves a meal, a slide show of pictures from the trip. The instructors have traditionally said words of congratulations to each student, and the chair or president of IDC has also spoken a few words of congratulations to the group.

The idea is that the banquet is a celebration for the students but also an opportunity for the students' accomplishments to be recognized in the larger community and in front of both their family and community members. Having the students accomplishments celebrated and recognized by their family and community is an important part of the program. In the past, former graduates of the program have also been invited to the banquet.
